The Pragamore Series holds closer to the concept of realism than most other novels. In its setting (1250 England) it uses the names of those who actually live there. As the series progresses, actual characters who lived in that time will be introduced.
The time is an exciting era. It is the time Richard the Lion Heart and his family. England is still involved with the crusades, the rights of land owners are just being established. The Catholic Church is a powerful entity, both in the might of its army and its sway in Christianity. Pagan ways are still a big influence in the Isles and are dealt with, sometimes harshly, by King Henry and Pope Innocent.

Does the association of Wizards, Dragons, and Elves intimidate you? It shouldn't. The Pragamore Chronicles are a collection of novels about English folklore without the 'Western' slant. In England, a good many consider Wizards, Dragons, and Elves to be of good character. But, as fate would have it, some of them do turn bad. Pragamore -- A New Beginning starts a series that introduces you to Richard Alvis -- an eighteen-year-old boy who learns his late grandfather just happened to be a wizard. And now, with the help of a wizardly friend of his grandfather, he sets out on a trek to learn more about who he really is.
Dragons in 1250 England are all but a thing of the past. This idea, as Richard soon learns, is not entirely true. As he gets used to them, he slowly learns that Dragons aren't the only beings Richard knows little of...
The difference between Elves and Gnomes is but one small bit on knowledge offered Richard while on his journey. In A New Beginning, he meets Yenwolk Stonesmith -- a Gnomish wizard who becomes Richard's best friend and mentor. In the illustration offered here, Yenwolk preaches to the young dragon in The Fourth Lesson, about the drawbacks of irritating a Wizard. Needless to say, Pragamore has to learn the hard way. The young dragon becomes Richards symbiotic twin. This is to say that at times, Richard can become so close to the creature, Pragamore, that he can appear as the Dragon himself.
